The Name
A Room For Things That Should Not Survive
A solarium is a glass room built to grow what the climate outside will not allow. Tropical things, in a cold country, thriving because someone decided they should.
We took that personally. Every season starts with a colour nobody asked for, and the argument for it is that we want it to exist.
How We Work

Colour first
The colour comes before the garment. If a piece only works in black, we have not finished designing it.

Runs of forty
Forty pieces a colourway. When it is gone it does not come back, and that is a decision rather than a tactic.

Made to be seen
Nothing here is designed to help you blend in. If that is what you need today, wear something else.
The Making
Slow Enough To Be Sure
The crochet pieces take a day each, by one person, by hand. The knitwear is spun in a mill that has been running since before any of us were born. The leather is tanned with bark rather than chrome, which takes weeks longer and smells like it should.
None of that is a sustainability claim. It is just how you make things that are worth the money.
The Colour
Marigold, And What It Costs
Dyeing a run in marigold costs more than dyeing it in black, sells more slowly, and a proportion of people will not buy it at any price. We know. We have the numbers.
What the numbers do not show is the person who bought the scarlet puffer three winters ago and still gets stopped in it. Black never does that. Being unmemorable is its entire function.
Subtlety is a choice. We keep making the other one.
